Heavyweight Cordura with DWR (durable water repellent) coating has excellent toughness and resistance to scuffing or tearing. It is very long lasting and is generally the best exterior fabric choice for serious outdoor heavy wear and tear gear bags. Available in 1680 1050 and 500 Denier with 1680 being the thickest coarsest weave and 500 the finest.
Vinyl with canvas backing is tough and very water resistant and works great as an exterior fabric. One slight disadvantage is that it can be slick and therefore if used for a shoulder bag it will tend to slip around a bit riding on one's back. The advantages are that it is overall very durable and the stylish appearance typically outweighs the functional drawbacks. Velboa faux fur – the feel is of a short pile soft velour with a sturdy canvas backing, This material is surprisingly tough for both light exterior and interior liner use and pairs nicely with the other materials in different applications. Rubberized marine liner adds serious toughness and effective waterproofing when paired with any of the above exterior fabric choices. Lined bags are made with high quality waterproof marine liner heavy duty nylon strap webbing and heavy duty thread. Plastic fasteners are YKK or ITW brand and zippers are YKK heavy duty.
